Understanding ADHD:Our Personal Journey Book Review

Understanding ADHD: Our Personal Journey

This book is a lively and personal account of the life of a young woman with ADHD. It was originally published as "butterfly kisses"
The young woman is named Amber and the book focuses on focuses on the challenges Amber's parents faced raising her to adulthood.

This is a warm, engaging book, filled with a sense of humor, not a dry academic treatise as many books on ADHD are. But the humor doesn't downplay the brutal honesty of the pain and challenges faced by both Amber and her parents.

This book is suitable for parents, teachers, educators and others who live and work with children with ADHD.

What I enjoyed most, though, are the nuggets and pearlsof 'battle-tested' strategies that work for the child with ADHD. These coping tips and parenting strategies were created by parents involved in the daily struggle of parenting a child with ADHD and not some fanciful, unrealistic theory dreamed up by some professor who has never dealt with, much less lived with, an ADHD child.

This book is filled with love, hope and encouragement and if you are the parent or teacher of an ADHD child, well worth the read.
